A Silent Love – Part 4
For somebody who was doing well as a salesperson, losing her voice was indeed a cruel misfortune. Not being able to tell Simon about it added oil to the fire and soon Claudia sank into a depression. Her parents decided to move away, hoping that she would eventually forget everything and be happy. With a new environment, Claudia gradually recovered enough to learn sign language and started a new life. She got a job teaching at the School for the Deaf. She coped well with her new method of communication and was soon making new friends and leading a normal life. Deep in her heart, however, she missed Simon and wanted very much for him to be a part of her life while at the same time, she kept telling herself that she must forget him.
One day, a friend told her that Simon was back. Claudia didn’t know to be happy or sad. However, she asked her not to let him know what had happened to her or to inform him of her whereabouts. Since then, there wasn't anymore news of him. Though she wanted very much to know of his well-being, she would hide her true feelings in front of her friends.
A year passed and just as Claudia was gradually accepting the fact that she wasn’t fated to be with Simon, her friend came with a red envelope containing an invitation card for Simon's wedding. Claudia was shattered. In fact, she was in a dilemma. Should she be happy for him, now that he has found a new love? Or should she tell him the truth about her ‘dumping’ him? She opened the card, looking for the name of the lucky bride. She saw her name instead.
When she was about to ask her friend what was going on, she saw Simon standing in front of her. He used sign language telling her, "I've spent a year learning sign language, just to let you know that I've not forgotten my promise. Let me have the chance to be your voice. I Love You.” With that, he slipped the ring back into her finger. Claudia finally smiled.
